Providence stands over me. Angry. Hurt.
There was nothing that I could do. This wasn't my fault.

Telling her wouldn't have saved her. Not from this. Not from it.
I did what I could. I warned her. I helped her let go. I helped her find peace.
I helped her die in peace.
The dog snarls.
She was my friend, too.
I hear the familiar purr. I watch the cats come closer. Surround me.
Protect me.
Looking for protection. Looking to the window, broken, stories above.
Looking for protection from the suffering.
I wipe the tears from my face. I can't do this.
